MALTA: our local activities

Type of activity: All the organized activities followed the scheme envisaged by the project through the shared road map. This report contains the activities deemed of greatest interest for the results obtained and for the achievement of the expected objectives.

Country: Malta

Partner: Maltese National Youth Council’s (KNŻ)

Description: This report contains a short reflection about their participation to the project. Worldwide, the topic of migration undoubtedly comes with many diverging opinions. In Malta, such opinions are certainly noticeable due to the large influx of migrants vis-a-vis the islands’ geographical position as well as size. The ideal outcome is integration, a process or rather, a state, which is highly desired but often difficult to attain due to a number of factors- racism, xenophobia and bureaucracy in the receiving country’s system being the most prevalent. These issues are very much real in Malta, and as complex as they may be, their effects are largely detrimental and thus cannot be ignored.  Just as much as each country has its own take on integration, likewise, each cluster of society offers a different but equally relevant insight on the matter. It is for this reason that the Maltese National Youth Council’s (KNŻ) partnership with TDM2000 International on the Erasmus+ KA3 project named TRAIN is fundamental.

KNŻ has always been vocal about societal issues affecting youth. The topic of integration is one which, although it affects youth in general (be it migrants, refugees and even the receiving country’s youth population), it remains largely un-discussed in the context of youth. Perhaps this is attributable to the way the topic is analyzed, which is often at macro level.  That being said, a youth perspective on the topic of integration offers a great deal of insight into the country’s educational system, workforce and other areas, all of which merit a strong analysis when assessing the country’s approach towards the topic. It is for these reasons that KNŻ’s local activities in relation to this project are mainly focused on gaining insight and perspective on the different scenarios where youth are affected the most by integration or lack thereof and the ways in which it can be improved.

Aim: Aim and objectives of the activities are different as follow:

  • To get in contact with the topic of the EU Youth Dialogue;
  • To focus the discussion on the integration of youths;
  • To analyze ideas and points of view regarding youth perspective on the topic of integration;
  • To analyze different scenarios of integration.

Main results: Creation of the material and the outputs for the draft of recommendations; sharing of ideas and tools starting from each personal experience.

Target group: Young migrants based in Malta and surrounding areas aged 18-30 years old; Policy makers and decision makers without age limits; general public attending the event interested in the themes discussed. Members of the Youth Council.
