Associazione Interculturale NUR, is a Sardinian regional sending and hosting organization for the Youth Program of the European Commission. It’s a non profit organization active in the fields of non formal education and interculturality and promotes cultural events, learning experiences and the diffusion of information for the Sardinian youth.
It was founded by some volunteers of the association FILEF, active in the assistance to Sardinian emigrants and member of the “Consulta Regionale dell’Emigrazione della Sardegna”. They are a group of people motivated by a strong interest in knowing other cultures, people that has lived intercultural experiences and who wants to offer the same chances to others. Knowing how tolerance and respect for the differences, interculturality and the knowledge of your theirs roots are key factors for a multiethnic society, our goal is to foster the highest diffusion among young people of these very same values against diffidence, xenophobia, racism and nationalism, and also against the wrong idea that paints the globalization as the synonym of equality while it is more like a tool for flattening the cultural differences to the same model of the rich first world’s culture.
Since 2000, NUR has been accredited by the European Commission and the National Youth Agency for the Erasmus+ program. In this context, it manages various community-funded projects every year. In the years between 2000 and 2008, NUR carried out numerous reception projects in Sardinia as part of the European Solidarity Corps and also directly managed 3 training courses aimed at European volunteers arriving in Italy and including Italian courses for foreigners. In the same period, and still today, NUR carries out several projects every year to send European volunteers with the same programme. In the framework of the Erasmus+ program, it also has international training projects, centralized projects directly funded by the European Commission in third countries, “Youth Projects and Democracy”, coaching activities for youth initiatives and transnational group youth exchanges.
Their main fields of activity are:
- the promotion of exchanges between cultures;
- youth international mobility;
- the fight against all forms of racism and xenophobia;
- the recognition of the competencies built through experiences of non formal education.
- We also work at language training and social inclusion projects for immigrants using skills built in over 10 years of ESC (European Solidarity Corps) hosting, sending and training.
Also, since 2003 they are local partners of the University for Foreigners of Perugia for the certification of knowledge of Italian as a second language (CELI).
